Occupational health and safety

Excellence in health and safety is an important value for our company. We strive to prevent all accidents, injuries and occupational illness. We work to harmonize our company-wide internal regulations and be more stringent about establishing the use of the best available techniques.

Risk assessment

Due to the variety of activities within the group of companies, it is important to evaluate all risks individually. Based on this analysis, we implement tailor-made measures and establish customized standards and work instructions. To learn from accidents, our efforts go beyond mere statistical evaluations. Accidents are analyzed in detail to identify company-wide potential for improvement. In addition, our proactive approach is supported by promotion campaigns that are designed to increase risk awareness in the workaday routine.

We continuously work to improve safety standards in our cooperation with contractors. For this purpose, Oiltanking Deutschland has developed safety regulations for contractors. The regulations are part of every service contracted by Oiltanking and provided on our facilities, and are also made available via our website. A database supports the company in selecting and evaluating contractors based on defined criteria.

Fire protection

Fire protection

Past incidents in our industry have shown that technical measures, organizational processes, and rules are not always sufficient to prevent fires. That is why it is very important to us to increase our staff’s risk awareness and to ensure a quick response to emergency situations by performing regular drills.

Involvement in associations

We have a vital interest in the safe operation of tankers and terminals. Therefore, our group of companies is a member – via our holding company Marquard & Bahls – of the Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) and the European Barge Inspection Scheme (EBIS), and is actively involved in promoting continuous improvement in safety standards.
